Our Value-Based Health Care (VBHC) programme is a ground-breaking scale-up effort that focuses on using Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) to promote improvements in patient-centered care across many locations within our hospital group. Our project, which began to address conditions in obstetrics and gynaecology—cataract, osteoarthritis, total knee replacement (TKR), and caesarean section (C/S)—has now evolved to include PROMs in the treatment continuum for these varied patient populations.
What distinguishes our project is its comprehensive approach to incorporating patient feedback directly into clinical decision-making and care planning procedures. By concentrating on diseases that have a major influence on patient quality of life, we want to better customise healthcare services to patient requirements, increasing satisfaction and results. This patient-centered approach is backed by a strong system for collecting, analysing, and responding on PROM data, ensuring that care delivery is both effective and aligned with what is most important to patients.
Our effort spans many hospital sites and a diverse variety of patient demographics. This development has allowed us to create a plethora of data that not only informs individual treatment plans but also directs institutional quality improvement and efficiency goals.
Preliminary findings have proven very positive, with meaningful improvements in patient-reported outcomes across the targeted conditions. These benefits include increased patient satisfaction, faster post-operative recovery, and more effective pain management techniques. Furthermore, by directly incorporating patients in the feedback loop, we’ve increased their sense of involvement and empowerment, which has fuelled good change inside our company.
This effort shows VBHC’s ability to improve healthcare delivery through a focused, scalable approach to patient engagement and data exploitation. As we refine our methodologies and increase our reach, we anticipate even larger effects on health outcomes, patient happiness, and overall care efficiency, reaffirming our commitment to putting patients first in all we do.
