Value Based HIV Care
OLVG is the largest hiv care center in the Netherlands (around 3000/18.000 (16,6%) patients nationwide) already meeting the WHO 2020 target for HIV care. We aimed to increase the value of our HIV care beyond the (inter)national targets and developed a unique set of outcome parameters according to the VBHC standards.
Over the past two years, 1)HIV specific patient reported outcome measures (PROMS) and 2) HIV care outcome indicators important to patients have been developed (both in close collaboration with our patients) ; 3) an HIV care path has been introduced with inclusion of the PROMS and 4) built into our electronic patient record allowing for easy data access; 5) a multidisciplinary team was formed, responsible for the outcome indicators; and 6) a collaboration has started with one of the Netherlands largest health care insurers to gain insight in the full cycle of care, collaboratively increase value of health care.
Already, other HIV centres have expressed their interest in the indicators for HIV care we have developed, enabling benchmarking and sharing best practices.
